ROCKETS BASKETBALL - 2025 SUMMER PROGRAM DETAILS

Exciting News! 

Rockets Basketball will be hosting tryouts for a few different programs this 2025 Spring/Summer season. We're offering a variety of programs to suit different skill levels and interests.
 

FIBA 3x3 Training:

• Continues for Boys & Girls: Our popular FIBA 3x3 Training will continue throughout the Spring.
• Registration Opens: Registration for Spring 3x3 Training will open on January 4th.

Summer Programs

Our Summer Programs are based on practice time and skills training, local games, some travel - and affordability.

All of our summer programs include a custom jersey your child will keep. Other Merch available will be optional. 

Girls Teams:

• U12 Girls:
  
  
  • A Team: Tryouts have concluded. This team will be coached by Coach Jack MacDonald.
    
    
  • Second Team: Tryouts will be held soon. We'll post the date in the first week of January.
    
    
• U14 Girls: Tryouts will be held mid-January. We'll post the date early January. This team will be led by Coach Catherine Steiner.

Boys Teams:

• Competitive House Leagues: We're excited to host two competitive house leagues for U12 and U14 Boys.
   
  • Tryouts: Tryouts will be held in February.
    
    
  • Rosters: Top 40 players from each tryout group will be selected and assigned to a coach.
    
    
  • Schedule: Players will practice twice a week and play approximately 12-15 local games from April to June.
    
    
  • Cost: $500 per player.
    
    
  • Benefits:
    • Very affordable way for Families to keep their athlete playing over the summer with out the hefty costs associated with travel teams and out of Province travel
    • Excellent opportunity for players to develop their skills while playing competitively.
    • All players receive a custom jersey.
      
      
  • Open to All: Our house leagues are open to players from any club and any area of the province.

Boys Summer Travel Teams: 

U12 Boys - we will peel a "Selects" team from our U12 Competitive League. That top team will travel to one or two travel tournaments and possibly do some exhibition games vs other local U12 summer teams. 

Our selects group will end up with another 5-10 games and a few extra practices above and beyond their regular U12 League Practices. Selects will finish up end of June as well. There will be additional costs for the selects team to cover tournament and travel fees above and beyond the U12 Competitive League. 

U13 Boys:

• Tryouts: Will be held in late January. Tryout dates will be posted soon.
• Coach: Robin Veinotte.
  
  

U14 Boys - We will conduct a tryout for our D1, UBB (United Beyond Basketball) group shortly. Targeting 18th/19th for tryout number 1 and 2. A second tryout will be confirmed later in the month. We are working around Club play and Jr High/HS playoff schedules to try to mitigate any interferance. This team will be coached by Tariq and Tajhon Thomas

U14 D1a - We will take a second team in U14, ideally these players will also play in our U14 Competitive house league (mirror image to that in U12) and we will have a selects team we peel from it. They will travel to a few additional tournaments outside of the House league as well. 

UBB Teams (U15 & U16):

• Selection: Teams will be selected this year.
• Coaches: Tariq and Tajhon Thomas.
• Tryouts: Will be held in mid-to-late January.
  
  

U16 Team 2 & U17/18 Team:

• Tryouts: Tryout dates will be posted soon, likely in late January and early February.
  
  

Our Summer travel teams will take 10-12 Active players, and up to 3-4 Red Shirts/Practice players to increase opportunity for athletes. 

House league teams play MBAns Rules for D1 in their respective age groups. Those teams will be 10-11 players. 

Open tryouts for all groups.

Players must register for tryouts and pay a $25 Dollar Tryout Fee. If you have not registered online and sign our waiver, you can not try out.

Our travel teams are planning several out-of-province tournaments, which will likely a few of the following :

PEI - May 2025

Cape Breton Rush - Canada Day Weekend

Zero Gravity - Boston/MA - June

Maine Gold Rush Weekend - June

2025 East Coast Games, Saint John NB (June 23-25 2025 dates)

St Laurent 2025 Tournoi Estival (June 29-Aug 02, 2025 Dates)

Rural NS Optys - Last season a few teams went to Yarmouth for a weekend (for example)

*Our travel and lodging will be organized by the club, and our summer teams will attend the same tournaments when possible. 

Practices will ramp up over April and teams will practice 2-3 times weekly after Club Provincials for each group finishes. 

To set cost expectations for families: There will be a one-time fee of $500, which will cover practices, insurance and your jersey. Travel teams will get 2-3 major tournament entrance fees. This fee can be made in two installments, with the first being due when Rosters are announced. 

Like all summer travel teams, additional costs will be required (fundraising available) to cover travel and lodging to these tournaments, as well as ad-hoc fees for Exhibition games that will come up to cover weekend gym costs and officials. These will be planned out as much as possible but could be ad-hoc at times due to the nature of traveling teams looking for extra games while they are in the HRM Area. A summer season will likely bear 4x the costs of a standard fall/winter club season, again with a lot of fundraising opportunities for athletes and families to bridge financial gaps. Our club is registered with Jump Start and Kidsport as well. 

For Example: Competitive House League Costs 500 Dollars.   $=500

For an athlete that makes a select team, Costs will be between $$ and $$$

For an athlete that makes a full travel team, Costs will be between $$$-$$$$$ depending on the merch you buy, and how many away tournaments your team decides to do.
