Many athletes want to play basketball year-round, but for many families the high price tags associated with full summer travel programs simply aren’t realistic. The Rockets Sprummer League was created to solve that problem — delivering high-level, competitive basketball in a structured, local format that keeps costs manageable while still providing the reps athletes need to keep developing.
Now entering its 3rd season, Sprummer continues to grow alongside our Rockets Elite Summer Travel programs, expanding this year to include U10, U12, U14, and U16 boys divisions.
Sprummer runs parallel to Rockets Elite, and many athletes will double up, competing in both programs to gain additional practices and meaningful game reps — without excessive travel or cost.
Sprummer is a competitive, tryout-based league focused on development through repetition, structure, and quality coaching.
While the program is open to all athletes to try out, rosters are selected competitively, with the goal of bringing together the top athletes in each age group. Many players will also be competing in Rockets Elite or other summer travel programs while participating in Sprummer.
Open to athletes from all clubs
Does not affect fall/winter club membership
Designed to complement, not replace, summer travel
Players train, compete, and develop during the spring/summer, then return to their home clubs in the fall.
Each division will select approximately 40-44 athletes, who will be:
-Balanced into 4 teams per age group
-Train as a team (just like Fall/Winter Club Basketball) throughout the season
-If teams are not balanced after the first tournament or two, coaches will Occasionally rebalance to ensure competitive, close games
This structure ensures:
-High-level competition
-Strong practice environments
-Meaningful roles for every athlete
Weekly Training
Two practices per week (1.5-2 hours each)
Teams will build toward tournaments, and occasionally pick up exibition games vs other Sprummer teams or else where if opty presents it self.
Sprummer uses a tournament-weekend model to balance competition with family flexibility.
-4 weekend tournaments
-4 games per tournament
-16 total games over the Sprummer season
-No weekly league play
This format:
-Keeps most weekends free for families (and to allow some kids to participate in Travel Programs along with Sprummer)
-Creates a high-energy tournament atmosphere
-Allows families to plan around basketball
-Builds a strong community feel with Rockets teams playing throughout the venue
U10 & U12 Divisions:
-Played under U12 rules
-5-on-5
-10-foot rims
-Full-court defense
U14 & U16 Divisions:
-Played under U16 rules
-10-minute quarters
-Open FIBA rules
These standards ensure athletes are challenged appropriately and prepared for the next level of play.
Tryouts: Early March
U10 & U12: Begin after March Break
U14 & U16: Tryouts held between March Break and BNS Club Provincial Championships
